City of Flowers Collection

The City of Flowers Collection is a growing number of digital restorations of antique originals in the artist’s collection. Beginning around 1850, Rochester New York, became a New World center of Commercial Botanical Art. Employing many immigrant artists, Rochester’s numerous printers built industrial libraries of thousands of chromolithographs, woodcuts, theorem paintings, hand colored photographs and other reproducible imagery. These plates were assembled as personal handbound sample books. Botanical art from Rochester printers was used in Horticultural Journals, Seed Companies and Plant Nursery Catalog, Seed Packets and Canning Labels.
