Homegrown Artichoke with Lettuce Leaf Basil, Garlic Chives, Spearmint, Laurel Leaves, Tuscan Blue Rosemary and Red Petra Basil. Dish handmade by the Artist’s mother in the early 1980s. Frame homage to 19th century Chromolithographs published by James Vick & Sons.

Images are in honor of my mother. Like her sisters and my grandmother, my mother not only loved artichokes, but made a wonderful version stuffed with thin slices of romano cheese, garlic and bread. Back in those days, artichokes were in season only briefly once a year here, but it was a gloriously delicious short season.
